If you’re a regular visitor to SFH Gardens, chances are you’ve already run into a young woman with broad smile who is eager to get you engaged. That beautiful smile belongs to Teresa Fernandez, who became Sunflower Hill’s newest employee in November.
As a hardworking garden volunteer/intern for more than a year, Teresa knows her way around our crops. In fact, if you ask her what she likes to do, she’ll probably say weeding! But she’s also a natural at the garden, eagerly assisting with classes and ranchers and developing her own leadership skills. In fact, it was via one of the special day classes – RES Success– that Teresa became acquainted with our program. She first attended as a rancher/participant with RES on a weekly basis. Her skills and can-do, positive attitude made her a natural choice for the SFH Garden intern program, and so she began volunteering three days a week. Along the way, she honed a number of specialized horticulture skills and attended the Adaptive Horticulture Program offered by Las Positas College in Summer 2017.
But Teresa is not one to rest on her laurels. In her spare time she’s learning Russian, Korean and Japanese! We’re proud to welcome her to the Sunflower Hill family. Thank you Teresa for all you do!
