(located at 949 Moraga Road, Lafayette)
Sunflower Hill at Sierra Place is the new name of our residential community now in development at 949 Moraga Road in Lafayette. Sunflower Hill is developing this project in conjunction with our partners, Satellite Affordable Housing Associates (SAHA), the city of Lafayette, Pyatok Architects and Sunseri Construction. As with all of our communities, Sunflower Hill at Sierra Place will be designed for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and other chromosomal abnormalities and mark’s our first expansion into Contra Costa County.
The 0.81 acre site was acquired by the city of Lafayette in 2010 and was designated as exempt surplus land in early 2025. In April 2025, the Lafayette City Council unanimously approved an Exclusive Negotiating Agreement (ENA) with SFH/SAHA to help the project move forward, and Ascend Architecture provided early conceptual designs. The project has been awarded $19.5 million through California’s Multifamily Finance Super NOFA program, $7 million in MHP Gap Financing, $5.3 million from Contra Costa County/Measure X and $1.4 million in FHLB AHP financing.
When fully funded and realized, the community will offer 48 one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, at 30-60 percent AMI, with ample space for supportive activities and services such as a teaching kitchen, fitness room, community room, vegetable garden and other flex space areas both inside and outdoors.
At this time, we do not have any information on the application process. If you’d like to stay informed on housing and future opportunities in Lafayette, please sign up to receive our newsletter.

The new name of our Lafayette community, Sunflower Hill at Sierra Place, honors Sierra Olson, a well-known and vibrant Lafayette resident who participated in Sunflower Hill programs at the garden at Hagemann Ranch and at Stable Café.
According to her family, Darci, Dylan, Eli and Annika, Sierra loved the idea of living in a Sunflower Hill community. Tragically, she passed away suddenly in 2022 before that dream could be realized. She was only 25 years old. Sunflower Hill is honored to acknowledge Sierra’s spirit and legacy via our new residential community in Lafayette.
