Organization will use grant to support the Sunflower Hill Garden Program

Sunflower Hill announced today that it has been awarded a grant from the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation. The grant, totaling $1,000 will be used to support the Sunflower Hill Garden Program.

The Sunflower Hill Garden, located in Livermore, California is a versatile space, offering hands-on gardening programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. With the help of program participants, volunteers, and staff, the Garden also operates for the purpose of growing, harvesting, and donating its produce to local non-profits, such as Tri-Valley Haven, Shepherd’s Gate, and Culinary Angels. Sunflower Hill donated over 5,500 pounds of produce to non-profits in 2020.

“The Sunflower Hill Garden is a vital part of the mission and vision of our organization,” said Edie Nehls, Sunflower Hill Executive Director. “We’re very grateful to the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Foundation for the grant that will enable us to continue with the important work we do in the Garden.”

Specifically, the grant will be used to purchase tools, materials, and supplies to support the organization’s in-person Hands-On Garden Groups program, which will provide opportunities for participants of all abilities to help in the implementation of day-to-day garden tasks. The grant will also support produce donation efforts and the overall operational maintenance of the Sunflower Hill Garden.
