Volunteer for Programs at Irby Ranch and the Garden

In addition to our gardening opportunities, we offer several volunteer opportunities to assist with programs at Sunflower Hill at Irby Ranch, our first residential community in Pleasanton or at the garden in Livermore. Join us in supporting resident and community activities such as cooking, arts and crafts, and Friday Night Live events at Irby Ranch, or summer camp activities at the garden.

Summer Camp Garden Program Volunteer Opportunities

We will be hosting two summer camps at our garden in Livermore this year:

  • Camp 1: June 1 – June 5
  • Camp 2: July 13 – July 17

Daily Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday
  • 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM
  • Includes approximately a 1-hour lunch break

Camp Structure:

  • Station-based format
  • Small groups of 6–10 participants rotate through stations
  • Stations will include a mix of:
    • Art-focused activities
    • Cooking activities
    • Garden activities
    • Movement-based activities
    • Fun, creative activities

Volunteer Commitment & Role

  • Volunteers do not need to commit to the full week
  • We are primarily looking for volunteers who can commit to full days, even if it is just one or two days
  • Any amount of support is incredibly helpful

Volunteers will assist with:

  • Leading or supporting stations
  • Engaging with participants
  • Helping with station setup and cleanup throughout the day

Irby Ranch Cooking/Program Support Volunteers

This opportunity is for volunteers interested in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) at Sunflower Hill’s first community, Irby Ranch, in Pleasanton. Join us to assist with our weekly Cooking Program. Experienced volunteers are needed to work alongside our program participants, assisting with dish duties, prep and clean-up, and small tasks, like helping with gloves and aprons, and answering questions during the activity. Volunteers also needed to take photos for social media. A background check is required. 

Additional Irby Ranch Volunteer Opportunities

  • Take photos and videos of our residents during our activities that we can use on social media
  • Join us on walking club (helper in the front or back)
  • Art class: prep and clean up, assist during art activity, photo and video helper
