Program Volunteers

Sunflower Hill creates a wide range of programs and activities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We offer volunteer opportunities for in-person programs at the Sunflower Hill Garden, at Irby Ranch, and additional programs and events.


Sunflower Hill is looking for a volunteer with American Sign Language (ASL) knowledge who can help provide a full range of interpreting/transliterating services for deaf/hard of hearing Sunflower Hill at Irby Ranch residents and program participants.

As a Garden Program volunteer, you will work with Teacher Abby and our program participants when they visit the Garden. Volunteers will assist with small groups of participants in the field to complete important garden tasks, including:

  • Assist in set up/clean up of garden tasks for the programs.
  • General garden work; lead and assist participants and support staff/teachers in general garden work such as weeding, planting, harvesting, composting, etc.

Our multi-disciplinary programs and activities are designed for adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and other chromosomal abnormalities. Our programs are designed to make content and experiences accessible and inclusive to all ability levels.

Please note: we require a background check for all of our Garden Program volunteers.
